The USB Mass Storage and CF/MMC/SD Reference Design kit includes everything necessary to implement a FAT16 file system using an SD, MMC or CF memory card on your Silicon Labs MCU. In addition, it provides a method of interfacing that system to a host PC via USB using the Mass Storage Device class.
Adding large amounts of external memory is now economically viable given the availability of low-cost high density Flash memory cards. Using an SD, MMC or CF card is an excellent way of providing gigabytes of data memory for a wide variety of applications. These applications include, but are not limited to:
-
Data logging of sensors and transducers over long periods of time
-
Storing large look-up or calibration tables
-
Storing multiple versions of firmware or configurations
-
Sharing data between embedded systems and PCs
The USB Mass Storage Reference Design kit includes the following items:
-
SD, MMC and CF memory card expansion board
-
256 MB SD memory card
-
9-Pin serial cable
-
